Secretary of State (SOS) Brad Johnson has a wall 16 x 7 feet, where he currently displays the artwork of Jennifer Robbins. Jennifer's artwork was put on display after she sent in a sample of her artwork. Originally the SOS office gave notice of the Montana Art Display program in the Montana Arts Council State of the Arts, for which they received several applicants. I thought it was worth publishing again. Here is how it works:
The only criterion for selection is that the artworks somehow depict Montana's history, heritage, or culture. They then rotate the artwork every four months, so that many artists from all over the state can take advantage of this special opportunity.
First off their are no guarantees that those who apply will be selected, and they do not select the artist based on who is next in line. It's very helpful if artists provide the SOS with either a website or photos so they can view their artwork. They don't accept 3-dimensional art because they are concerned about security of the artwork (it might get broken).
They like the artwork to be up and displayed the first week of the first month they are assigned. They have a simple contract artists are required to sign for protection of both sides' interests. As per the contract, the artists are responsible for bringing their work to the SOS office in Helena and picking it up at the end of their four months. They have a person from Dept of Administration's General Services who will help haul the artwork into and out of the Capitol, if needed, and he helps hang it as well.

Comments:| 1. | Tammy Bridges | 3/2/2007 5:34:57 PM MST | I have a large 4' x 4' sun and a moon with a little star next to it. All of my art is constructed from only old farm equipment. Please look at my website and let me know if you are interested. I just donate a sun to be auctioned at the Art at Work fund raiser for the Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. I am co-sponsoring Traci Sussane Marvel in her 60 mile walk. Thanks and hope to here from you. |
