This month's Big Sky Film Series presents Annick Smith's vivid 1976 portrait of Montana's much-loved and admired poet, Richard Hugo. "Richard Hugo: Kicking the Loose Gravel Home" documents the history of the author's life and work, including old photographs, memoirs, interviews with his family and friends and illustrated readings of "Duwamish," "White Center," "The Milltown Union Bar," "Degrees of Gray in Philipsburg," "The Lady in Kicking Horse Reservoir," and "At the Cabin." Filmed on location in western Seattle and Hugo's hometown of White Center. Other locations are in Montana's Flathead Valley, the Rocky Mountain Front near Choteau and in Missoula where Hugo lived and taught at the University of Montana.
The Big Sky Film Series is a periodic monthly screening series highlighting traditional and innovative non-fiction film and video. It is held the first Friday of the month as part of downtown Missoula, Montana's "First Friday" art night. All screenings are held in the Historic Wilma Theater (Wilma 3 downstairs) and are free and open to the public.
