Art, as well, has been my source of excited expression. No matter what the time or place, art has stood beside me as a loyal friend. Each creation is not my own, but a gift from God. I began sketching in pencil and ink and fell in love with the linear boldness. Out of this developed my graphic style. I have always been mesmerized by linear art and remember my first experiences seeing it in Catholic art. During catechism classes I would examine each detail of the drawings in my study books completely ignoring what was going on in the class. From this I began to doodle on whatever I could find. It was years later that I was exposed to Picasso, which further fueled my love of the bold black lines. My style was born, though unknown to me. My work is a representational view of my encounters. The paint allows me to convey what I see around me onto a canvas for others. One of the prevailing themes in my work is humor. The ability to laugh at ourselves, and our circumstances is a healing experience as well as providing a positive example to those around us. My hope is that my work provides the viewer with a reprieve, a moment to escape the troubles of the day.
