Terrel Longenecker Jones was raised and born on the Pacific Coast near Seattle, WA, where the landscape and climate influenced her in many ways. The damp density of these forests informed her art years later, when she chose to paint trees as the focus for the MA she acquired at the University of Montana in 2000. But the rain and cloudy skies also prompted her to go to warmer climates and a more open landscape. In 1969 Terrel took off for Peru, to see for herself what a South American culture was all about. She married and remained in Lima for 10 years, returning to the US in 1979, this time to Butte, MT where her parents had settled while she was in Peru. Terrel brought with her two beautiful daughters, teaching experience, an acquired second language, the influence of South American colors and patterns, and the sun in her eyes. These elements are all part of her choices when creating a work of art. Terrel loves learning, exploring ideas, and making connections. She strives to become an accomplished artist, with an awareness of her ever changing appreciation of different styles, aloowing herself to explore them and grow. At the moment, her goal is to paint briefly, intuitively yet informed, to keep the work fresh and to have it speak to others as it does to her.
