I am a painter with an undeniable fascination with photography. I started out at a Dominican college in 1993, studying the Old Masters and painting from the nude. While working on my Masters thesis exhibition at ASU in 1995 my focus was on large oils on paper of the human figure integrated with black line, and large color fields. While grad-teaching figure drawing classes at the University of Memphis, I finally gratified my photography skills by 'painting' with non-traditional dark room techniques from black & white photographs of my models. My MFA exhibition consisted of a large thematic installation with sculpture, video and photographs on linen. Soon after I was hired as an artist for the drama department in a college in North Carolina. During this period I developed a process of photography experimenting with unusual techniques of toned black & white photographs. Later, when I moved back to California I dropped the figure completely because my interest evolved to the use of large color field seascapes. Currently I am simplifying even more...working on two textural pieces using a technique similar to venitian plaster. In my early career I worked in galleries in Los Angeles, then decided to return to school for my degree in art. I graduated with my MFA from the University of Memphis in Memphis, TN. I am experienced in showing my work in various venues. I enjoy working "large" because of my experience in theatre design. My installations include large scale designs based on my interpretations of a woman's place in a patriarchal society and the beauty of pure process. I have shown my work in North Carolina, Arkansas, Michigan, Tennessee, and California.
