The art of Robert Schlenker reflects his lifelong infatuation with wild places, and can be described as "detailed realism".

Robert was born in south central North Dakota, in the heart of the prairie pothole region of the United States. This area is teaming with ponds, lakes and sloughs set among the rolling hills of the prairie. There, more waterfowl is reared than in any other state of the union. While growing up in North Dakota Robert developed a strong appreciation for waterfowl, birds, game, non game animals, and a great respect for conservation of natural resources. As a young boy, Robert would spend many hours drawing, painting and spending time near the lakes and sloughs. The many hours spent as a young man contemplating nature in this wildlife and waterfowl mecca set the tone for all of his artwork to come.

Over the years Robert developed his artistic skills and soon focused on wildlife art. Robert moved to Montana more than 20 years ago and revels living in an area so rich with reference material for wildlife and landscape painting. While hiking, backpacking, and floating rivers Robert finds his artistic senses stimulated and his mind racing with images and ideas for new compositions.

Although not a competitive person, Robert enjoys entering conservation stamp contests. He feels it is a great way to challenge him, hone his skills, and keep in tune with the wildlife art world. Robert is a self-taught artist. He nurtures his skills through self-study and by spending time with fellow artists.

Robert is a signature member of the Worldwide Nature Artist Group (WNAG). The Worldwide Nature Artist Group is an exclusive, international, society of world-class nature artists who are dedicated to the conservation of the natural world.
