My relationship with nature forms a strong link between me the person and me the artist. Whether I am making two-dimensional work that is representative or three-dimensional work that is abstract, it is motivated by the chemistry I have with people and the natural world. The writer and artist Deborah Haynes characterizes the artist’s role as being an “apprentice to nature”, “an observer of the world, who is tending and stewarding to the place where they live.” I greatly identify with this description and find myself motivated in similar ways. As an artist, I am moved by natural forms, organic patterns, and exploring the manner in which living things interact with one another. The images I create celebrate the beauty of nature, as well as the decay of it, observing the interconnectedness of living things and the laws that govern them. I strive to make art work which inspires people to more intricately bond with their environment, in hopes of forming a deeper appreciation for their surroundings.
