Educated at Dartmouth College and Northwestern University, Marvin Soroos is a recently retired professor of international relations and global environmental politics at North Carolina State University. He divides his time between Raleigh, North Carolina, and his childhood home in Missoula, Montana.
The subjects of his landscape paintings mostly in the acyrlic medium are drawn from the Big Sky country of Montana and rural North Carolina as well as from his extensive travels both within the United States and abroad. His international travels have taken him through much of Western Europe and the British Isles, Russia and Eastern Europe, Scandinavia, Central and South America, southern and eastern Asia, and the Persian Gulf region. He has been a visiting professor at universities in Finland and Bulgaria, as well as at Williams College in western Massachusetts.
He has shown his work in solo and group exhibitions in North Carolina, most recently show of his paintings entitled “Landscapes across America” in the Raleigh Municipal Building. His paintings have also been displayed in galleries in Raleigh, Missoula, Omaha, Nebraska, and Cody, Wyoming. His scenes of North Carolina have won several awards in the combined amateur painting division at the North Carolina State Fair including the Agricultural Commissioner’s Purchase Award.
