Lucy McCoy paints wildlife in earth friendly acrylics with
an emphasis on eyes, facial expression, texture and brushstrokes. After a long life of wildlife observation and a 30 year career as a Veterinarian she views animals as complex in their behavior, expressions and emotions. Since they have fewer facial muscles than people do their expressions are more difficult to see. Lucy’s been portraying these subtleties on canvas for nearly 20 years. A self taught Painter and Photographer, she’s studied Sculpture, Bronze Casting, and Ceramics in the Art Program at Casper College in Wyoming. She’s also an accomplished Stained Glass Artist trained in Seattle, WA.
Living in the mountains West of Missoula, Montana Lucy feels privileged to live amongst wild creatures; Bighorn Sheep, Elk, Deer, Bear, Moose, Wolves, Mountain Lion and many others. In her studio on the West Fork of Petty Creek she paints the wildlife she sees as co-inhabitants of the woods in a way that portrays them as individuals with intelligence, individual personalities, thoughts and concerns. At times you will feel a sense of connection and communication with these animals as they appear to be looking directly into your eyes.
