Painter and Montana native Jennifer Bardsley specializes in oil and watercolor paintings. Her subject matter includes wildlife, abstract, still-lifes, flowers, figures and cowgirls.

Jennifer's handcrafted art draws from a variety of influences, including natural elements, western myths and contemporary artwork.

Media is also diverse, but always vibrant. As a technique, painting is part of the content. The elements from media offer different brush strokes, color and texture. From watercolors to acrylic and oils, Jennifer paints on canvas and handmade paper with cattle-markers, which are oil-based paints sticks that ranchers use to mark their livestock.

"Where does inspiration come from? I try to be awake to the beauty around me in the Mountains in Montana. I pray to it, worship it. But, you never know when new ideas will manifest. Creativity is like a fish darting through a river current to me. It comes and goes. But, I love it anyway. I get inspired ussually when I am on the move. Maaretta Jaukkuri once said very aptly that an artist must have good shoes. Finding the question is harder than finding the answer."

I see some of my art as a visual affirmation for my own life. So, I try to give an energy that reflects a feeling or holds an intention. But, sometimes the work has nothing to do with me, so the trick is not getting in the way. The goal is a direction, like a vanishing point, a place you can't see. Searching and seeking are an essential part of art. The process of creating often requires blocks of time to sit and stare at a painting. Other times the process is fast and furrious. The painting is finnished when it looks like itself."

    Biography

I was born and raised in Helena, Montana and studied Fine Art at Montana State University and at the University of Oregon. I have a home in Missoula, Montana and am married with two children.

When I am not doing art, I enjoy adventuring with my kids and husband. We enjoy skiing, mountain biking, travel - both within and outside of Montana - and camping on our land on the Dearborn River. I also love to garden, read and spend time with friends.
Being home with my kids is wonderful, and I have a lot of gratitude for being present in their lives.

Currently we are living abroad for one year in Helsinki, Finland. We will return to Montana in August of 2007.
