With a gift that blossomed at age three, Dianna Prouty’s flair for art and brilliance of imagination radiated and flourished throughout every facet of her life. Born in the heart of the Sixties and raised in a Northwestern mill yard, Dianna began developing her own élan and style while teaching herself to paint and draw in the backyard of her family home. Before even learning to ride a bike, Dianna had captured her imagination on paper. Despite the later persuasion and pleading of high school art teachers, Dianna chose to keep her art a component of her personal life; painting on rainy nights in Seattle, sculpting in the grass under the June sun, or sketching on napkins during family dinners. Preoccupied having babies and soaking up the Seattle coffee craze, Dianna’s art graced the occasional playbill, adorned the everyday (randomly painting on front doors and kitchen walls) or was hosted and auctioned at swanky Eastside charity events. Her art is a conceptual hybrid of emotional tangibility, abstract form, whimsical attitude and sinuous curves and color. As a self styled watercolorist, Dianna mastered the art of black and white watercolor, throwing the occasional twist of color into her life with a vibrant bowl of bubbles on watercolor paper. Aside from the brush, Dianna also developed a pick up method not commonly used by artists of any medium. With a pencil and pink pearl eraser, her surrealistic sketches are conceivably photographic in nature. Typically less quirky than her paintings, Dianna’s drawings tend to wean emotion from the viewer, capturing sentiment and passion. Other mediums of _expression include sculpting and photography; her photos tend to be of the obscure, unusual or simple mundane, and tantalizing funk, while her sculpted pieces are often playful in nature. Drawing inspiration from good music, deep wine and the natural wonder of waking up day after day, Dianna’s understanding of the balance between artistry and everyday life is what sparkles in her work. Each individual piece is poetically outlined and executed, cleaving to layers of intellectual meaning and artistic intrigue. When relieved of her duty as a freelance cat trainer, self proclaimed music critic and entertainer of a witty five year old, Dianna finds more and more time to devote to her artwork. Enthusiasts have the opportunity to view select pieces of her work at various local showings and select venues.
