Painting is my life. As a Montana native, my oils reflect the infinitive variety of color and mood as well as the vastness of the sky and landscapes in my environment. I am dedicated to a responsibility to incorporate my culture and expansiveness of a rural context in my work; I harmonize color and form to create energy and incite the emotion of this space. Building a framework of form, color harmonies, color gradations and textures, I aspire to involve the viewer in the synthesis of these elements, the elements from which I construct my personal vision.

Many of my works are figure-ground compositions with a deliberate ambiguity of spatial arrangement. The images are intended to create a sensation on canvas which goes beyond the everyday experience of seeing; objects advance or recede within the painted space. I invite the viewer into another dimension.

My apprenticeship with my father, a painter who learned his trade at the Haskell Indian Institute in Lawrence, Kansas, have given me clarity of vision and spiritual insight. Early in life, I was fortunate to spend time with my grandmother, a classical pianist, who radiated an appreciation for music.

The powerful impact of music spurred my studies of art history. A solid knowledge and understanding of the history of art is a major consideration in my contemporary painting. I am heavily influenced by the Impressionists Van Gogh and Monet for color; Daumier and Degas for composition and impact; and the abstract expressionists Jackson Pollack, Phillip Guston, and William DeKooning for the exclamation in my art.
