DG House was born in 1959 in Cincinnati, Ohio. A family passion for camping introduced House to the rural landscapes of Ohio where her life long love for the environment and wildlife developed. Fulfilling a lifelong dream, House arrived in Yellowstone Park in the summer of 1981. It was here her native heritage and deep abiding love for the people, landscapes and wildlife came together. Although she continued to study painting at the University of Dayton, House always returned to Yellowstone and made Bozeman, MT her home in 1988.
DG House’s paintings are contemporary expressions of native people and wildlife of the rocky mountain west. Not willing to settle for romantic clichés, House is a risk taker presenting outstanding compositions, layered with symbolism and a deep spirituality.
DG House’s work has been exhibited in the Yellowstone Art Museum, the Museum of the Rockies, the Holter Art Museum, Missoula Art Museum, the Hockaday Museum of Art and the Paris-Gibson Square Museum of Art in Montana. She is a native guest artist-in-residence at the Colter Bay Indian Arts Museum in Grand Teton National Park and at Old Faithful in Yellowstone National Park. House is represented in Montana by Indian Uprising Gallery in Bozeman, the Depot Gallery in Red Lodge and in Wyoming by A Horse of A Different Color Gallery in Jackson, WY. Her paintings and fine art prints are in collections on every continent including the Colter Bay Indian Arts Museum, WY; the National Museum of the American Indian, (Smithsonian Institution) and singers Michael McDonald’s and Sir Elton John’s private collections. She recently was honored at the Great Falls Native American Art Show and was the featured artist at the 2007 Montana State University Pow Wow. She painted a life-size buffalo for the city of West Yellowstone, MT during the summer of 2007, a life-size calf in 2008 and was named to the prestigious Indian Artist Residency at the Montana Artist’s Refuge in Basin, MT. House was chosen to participate in the National Folk Festival that premiered in Butte, MT in July, 2008 and was one of twelve artist juried into the Anaconda Wildlife Art Expo Auction, September, 2008. DG House has been featured in numerous magazine and newspaper articles as well as television documentaries. She is currently illustrating a children’s book on ravens.
