While working and studying art in New York City during the 1980s, she traveled and studyied the art and architecture of Scotland, England, Ireland, Yugoslavia, Turkey, and Mexico. In 1990, she received her BFA from Pratt Institute and in 1993 she received her MFA from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. For the next 18 months she traveled in Southeast Asia, completing a six-month apprenticeship at Gyorenbo Studio in Kyushu, Japan and a one-month residency at Woon Bo Studio in Taegu, South Korea. Upon returning she continued her work in sculpture, working with a wide variety of styles, techniques, and media, showing her work nationwide. During this time she began teaching art, including ceramics at Abington College of Penn State and dozens of art residencies in schools around New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania. In 1998, she was awarded a 3 month residency at the Moravian Tile Works, in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, and began to incorporate tile into her work and her teaching. Currently, Ms. Gibson is building her studio in Hot Springs, MT, where she is making functional pottery and sculpture.
