I became a potter after a twenty year career as a teacher of the hearing impaired. My joy of clay began as a collector followed by immersion studies at Penland School of Crafts, John C. Campbell Folk School, Laloba Ranch, Shakerag Workshops, Odyssey Center, and Clemson University.
I view ceramic arts as a forever learning process. New techniques, forms, glazes, and kiln firings present learning challenges and continued growth as an artist.
My rural life in both South Carolina, and Montana, has inspired marks and carvings on my forms. Reflections on newly plowed fields, round bales of hay, and the ripples and movement in streams are revealed on the rims and sides of each one of a kind, stoneware piece. The earth browns, rusts, blues, and turquoise found in my glazes are a reflection of the natural beauty surrounding my home.
