Tim Holmes is the first American artist ever honored with a solo exhibition in the Hermitage museum in St. Petersburg, Russia, in 1993, where his sculptures remain on permanent exhibition. He’s recognized for creating international peace awards such as the U.N. Women’s Peace Prize and the PeaceLinks Award as well as numerous artworks for other international human rights projects. His works appear in the collections of Nobel laureates, presidents and other notables.
Though primarily a sculptor, for the past several years he has been creating and screening a series of ultra-short films called Body Psalms, a celebration of the sanctity of the body through rituals involving dancers unfolding passages of sacred writings painted on their bodies in a unique performance of sculptural poetry.
Besides lecturing and teaching around the nation, Holmes is a member of the Montana Arts Council and advises civic groups on arts issues. He has received several arts awards and as a member of the political satire group “The Montana Logging and Ballet Co.”, several awards including the Janette Rankin Peace Award and the Lokata Women’s Peace Medal.
