For a moment, when I compose, I am alone; I am with everything. “Color like the paint will never dry,” an old saying, holds true to me. I have it mounted next to my bouquet of richly multihued pencils. I’ve spent years experimenting into a variety of mediums. Colored pencils are the apparatus between my imagination and my art. Art is the vehicle of my expression. My journey as an abstract artist has no destination, which keeps me fresh—the reason for my unique technique. I understand why people consider my work different, because it’s different to me too—always changing. A frequent theme of energy and movement is shared with all works of art I design. What I craft involves intense expression, incorporating a mosaic of fascinating and brave colors. Much of my inspiration comes from my experiences growing up in Bozeman, Montana. Nature is my model and nature changes—so must my art. I create because I have to. I see beauty in the mountains, in my garden, in people, and even doing the dishes. There is an unspoken message of wonder in this world; I am, simply, the messenger. For me, the world is too magnificent to put in words. I must use art—the kaleidoscope of imagination. Jess promises us a cryptic and creative journey with countless destinations.
